Mohali May 26: A complicated spine surgery was performed successfully by Dr. Vineet Saggar, Head of Neuro Interventional and Endovascular Neurosurgeryat Ivy Hospital, Mohali recently.
A 55-yr old man who met with a fatal road traffic accident was brought to Ivy emergency. He was unable to move his arms and legs properly. It had been almost 24-hr since the accident happened and his problems were increasing.
The MRI cervical spine revealed fracture dislocation of C2 over C3 vertebrae. This was a complex cervical spine injury which can be fatal or crippled patient if not treated, said Dr. Vineet Saggar.
The patient was stabilized and successfully operated to fix and fuse the spine and realign the spine. He was discharged after a few days, said Dr Saggar.
Dr Saggar who has over 10 years of experience in performing such surgeries informed that upper cervical spine injuries are complex and critical injuries and require immediate and expert intervention to prevent permanent deficit and disability to the patient.
