Airtel, a leading telecommunications company in India, partnered with IDEMIA Secure Transactions on February 28, 2024 to revamp their SIM cards. The change involved shifting from using virgin plastic to recycled PVC, showcasing Airtel’s commitment to sustainable business practices. Airtel, the only telecommunications company in India to switch to recycled plastic SIM cards, will save more than 165 tonnes of virgin plastic in one year, which will reduce the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions by over 690 tonnes.Check PlagiarismCopySave
In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Airtel is promoting circularity with supplier partners and other stakeholders, encouraging them to reduce waste, recycle, and reuse.

Airtel has set goals to decrease overall scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50.2% by FY 2030-31, using FY 2020-21 as the starting point. Additionally, they aim to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions by 42% during this time period. To achieve these targets, Airtel is implementing various strategies such as promoting energy efficiency, utilizing open-access green energy, adopting renewable energy in operations, creating a climate resilient network, and improving resource efficiency and waste management.
