An album, a symphonic offering of seven tracks bridging classical, devotional, spiritual, ghazal, Sufi and geet sounds, it is a tribute to the enduring power of music and that age-old, sacred Guru-Shishya relationship.
Commenting on his relationship with Sumeet Tappoo, the inimitable Anup Jalota, who graced the event, said, “I’ll never forget when I went to Fiji for the first time and met Sumeet’s family. My young Sumeet, who was a toddler at that time, came along to all my concerts, absorbing all the music. I saw a spark in him, a connection, and it was undeniable. And, to see him evolve into a world-class artist today makes me incredibly proud,” Jalota said.
Gasping with emotion, Sumeet Tappoo thanked everyone with all his heart. “Meeting Anupji changed my life. What we share goes beyond this lifetime — it’s timeless. This album, ‘Legacy,’ is about the purpose, love, and inspiration he instilled in me.” This album is indeed different in many ways, and I am sure it will captivate music lovers, worldwide.”
The tracks on the album are a master class in the duo’s unmatched artistry. Highlights include “Chaturang,” a classical gem drawn from the Shyam Chaurasi Gharana, and “Prabhuji Tum Chandan Hum Paani,” a devotional number enriched by a live symphony orchestra. The emotionally charged “Raabta,” a ghazal, and the upbeat Sufi number “Meherbaniyan” display the duo’s breadth and accord. Songs such as “Shaayad” and “Safar” have a more contemporary energy to them, while “Hari,” a prayer for world peace, wraps up the music album on a spiritually uplifting note.
The unveiling ceremony was further highlighted by the display of a nostalgic photograph taken four decades ago of a young Sumeet held in the arms of his Guru on a sun-drenched beach in Fiji, signifying the beginning of their extraordinary journey.
‘Legacy’ is not just an album — it is a timeless homage to music, devotion and an inseparable bond. But now as Anup Jalota and Sumeet Tappoo release their opus onto the world, they offer all those listening to the album a journey across a symphony of emotions, a tale of time from the grips of classical tradition to the ever-evolving realm of music.
