Chandigarh, March 15, 2024: 334th special meeting of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation was held under the leadership of Mayor Kuldeep Kumar. Five agendas were taken up in the meeting. These included 24×7 water supply in Chandigarh, the second agenda was regarding insurance of 11,000 Municipal Corporation employees, the third agenda was regarding street vendors. The fourth agenda was about property tax and the fifth agenda was about providing staff for the ‘Mayor Aap Ke Dwar’ programme.
Speaking on the agenda of 24×7 water supply, the Municipal Corporation Commissioner gave detailed information to the entire House about this project, how this project is to be implemented and where and how much funds are to be spent.
The second agenda which was about insurance of Municipal Corporation officials was discussed by various councillors and they said that we need to provide more funds for insurance keeping in mind the health and life of Municipal Corporation employees, so that they do not suffer from distress. In such a situation, the safety of every Municipal Corporation employee and his family can be ensured.
The third agenda that was presented was regarding street vendors. Speaking on this, councillor, Damanpreet Singh said that there are many street vendors in the city who sit illegally at wrong places. They should be allotted appropriate space and made to sit there so that other vendors can get their due rights. He also said that licenses should also be issued to old vendors who did not get licenses.
Speaking on the fourth agenda of property tax, councillor Yogesh Dhingra said that Chandigarh Municipal Corporation should bring a scheme under the Samriddhi Yojana of Delhi Municipal Corporation to collect property tax. It is also known as One Time Settlement Scheme. Under this scheme, people who have old property tax outstanding can avail the benefits of this scheme by depositing the tax. Under this scheme, the old dues of property tax will also be deposited with Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, which will benefit both the common people and the Municipal Corporation.
The fifth agenda was about providing staff in connection with the ‘Mayor Aapke Dwar’ program, which was recently started by Mayor Kuldeep Kumar in the city, under which various programs are being run in every ward to solve the problems of the people. There was a severe shortage of staff in these programs, due to which this agenda was presented, to which the Municipal Commissioner replied that staff will be made available from the Municipal Corporation Department for the ‘Mayor Aapke Dwar’ program and there will be no shortage of staff in the ‘Mayor Aapke Dwar Program’.
Speaking on this occasion, Mayor Kuldeep Kumar said that all the councillors expressed their views in detail on all the agendas presented in the Municipal Corporation today. He said that in the coming days, under the ‘Mayor Aapke Dwar’ program in the city, people’s problems will be heard by visiting different wards and efforts will be made to solve them on the spot. He said that now we will make Chandigarh the number 1 city of the country with all-round development and all the grievances of the people will be redressed.
