Chandigarh : The Department of Computer Science and Applications, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, celebrated National Science Day with great enthusiasm. This day commemorates the remarkable achievement of Nobel laureate Sir C.V. Raman for his discovery of the Raman Effect. The celebration featured four competitive events and an expert talk, highlighting the significance of scientific advancements and innovation. The expert talk was delivered by Dr. Prashant Kumar, Principal Scientist at Central Scientific Instruments Organization, Chandigarh. Dr. Prashant Kumar Kumar enlightened the audience about recent scientific trends, the importance of Science Day, and various science institutes across India. In the Poster Making competition themed “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat,” Shreya Rana (MSc 2nd Sem) was awarded for the Most Innovative Idea, Barleen Kaur (MCA 2nd Sem – Morning) for the Most Creative Idea, and Priyanshul Kumar (MCA 2nd Sem – Evening) for the Most Sustainable Idea. The “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Technical Rangoli” event recognized Kanika Chaudhary, Kanika Sharma, Gurvinder, and Ajay (all MCA 2nd Sem – Evening) as the Best Technical Artists of DCSA 2024, Chesta and Kajal (M.SC 2nd Sem) Performed well. In the Coding Challenge, Amit Aswal (MCA 2nd Sem – Morning) emerged as the Best Problem Solver for DCSA 2024, Anish Kashyap (MCA- 2nd Sem), Kashish Sahu (MCA- 2nd Sem, Morning), Aakash Shukla (MCA- 2nd Sem, Evening), and Arijit Sharma (MCA- 2nd Sem, Evening) also displayed impressive coding skills. Additionally, in the Group Discussion, the titles for the Best Scientific Speaker of DCSA 2024 were awarded to Priyanka Sharma (MCA 2nd Sem – Morning) and Bhavneet Saini (MSc 2nd Sem). Dr. Rohini Sharma, Chairperson of DCSA, commended the participants for their active involvement. Dr. Anuj Kumar and Dr. Kavita Taneja, the event coordinators, congratulated the winners and encouraged all students to participate in such initiatives. The celebration concluded with a valedictory session where tokens of appreciation were presented to the esteemed speaker and prize winners. Overall, the National Science Day celebration showcased the department’s commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and innovation among students.
