Mohali, July 31, 2022: Lung cancer is the most frequent cancer killer worldwide, and it kills many people annually. It is one of the leading types of cancer in men, ranking fifth for women in our country. Head and neck cancer is the most frequent cancer in men, in our country. To commemorate World Lung Cancer Day on August 1, Dr Digambar Behera, Pulmonary Medicine at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, has created an advisory on the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options to prevent lung cancer. The theme of World Lung Cancer Day 2022 is ‘Close the Care Gap’.
SYMPTOMS
–Lung cancer kills the most people and is one of the most common types of cancer in the world. It is the fifth most common cancer in females in our country, following head-neck cancer. In men, it is the most common cancer.
DIAGNOSIS
-Lung cancer can be diagnosed through lab test, PET/CT scan, bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). A bronchoscopy is conducted when a biopsy is done, fine needle aspiration cytology and examination of the lung fluid also confirm the primary site of the cancer.
