Chandigarh, July 26, 2023: MP Vikram Sahney, in a significant gesture of unity, hosted an informal gathering and dinner for all Punjabi MPs as the Monsoon session of Parliament commenced. Emphasizing the greater cause of Punjab, Sahney called upon the MPs to transcend party affiliations and address the pressing issues faced by the state concerning the central government.
During the interaction, Sahney brought attention to the distressing plight of Punjabi farmers and the challenges posed by the non-receipt of Rural Development Fund and Market Fees by the state government, resulting in an accumulative amount of 4200 crores.
Recognizing Punjab as the food bowl of India, Sahney stressed the significance of bolstering the rural sector and developing infrastructure in Mandis to benefit the farmers.
One of the critical concerns raised by Sahney was Punjab’s mounting debt, exceeding 3 lakh crore rupees, necessitating urgent restructuring. As a border state that had witnessed prolonged militancy for over two decades, Sahney advocated for a financial bailout package to support Punjab’s recovery.
In light of the recent floods that had devastated Punjab, Sahney underscored the need for a special relief package to aid in the region’s rehabilitation.
